Why སོང

བཀྲ་ཤིས་བདེ་ལེགས། འདི་ངའི་ལོ་པན་གླིང་གི་འདྲི་བ་དང་པོ་རེད།

On the next sentence: བཀྲ་ཤིས་ལས་ཀ་ལ་ཕྱིན་སོང་
Why we use སོང? Why not བྱུང or མྱོང? How we do to choose the right one?

Sometimes, it will depend on what you want to say!

But in this sentence, སོང་ is acting as a helping verb called an ‘evidential’. It is one of the most common evidential verbs, so you will use it much more often than བྱུང་ or མྱོང་ (except for a few set phrases or contexts, you probably do not need to worry about using them much yet).

You will choose སོང་ when something just happened, and you experienced it happen, but you didn’t do it yourself — here, maybe Tashi just went to work, and you saw him go, so you say “བཀྲ་ཤིས་ ལས་ཀ་ ལ་ ཕྱིན་ སོང་།”.

If you didn’t see him go, or you are talking more generally in the past tense, you might say: “བཀྲ་ཤིས་ ལས་ཀ་ ལ་ ཕྱིན་པ་ རེད།”
